Makes a Great Christmas or Birthday Gift!
Based on the success of the past eight years, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is pleased to once again offer the Guest Engineer Program for 2008.
This is your chance to be the engineer on one of our authentic Monson Railroad locomotives.
The 2008 program will offer four dates: June 7, July 12, August 16 and September 20. The cost will be $400 for a daylong experience (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). This includes a minimum of one hour of time at the throttle of the locomotive. The fee also includes a complimentary one year family membership, an authentic engineer's cap, complete with special button or patch. Participants will have a one-hour Safety and Rules Class and will receive instruction on the art of properly operating a steam locomotive.
Guest Engineer trains are operated as special trains that are run in addition to our regularly scheduled diesel powered passenger trains. Guest Engineer trains will run rain or shine. Guest Engineers are welcome to come early to help the crew as they prepare the locomotive for the day's activities. We have plenty of brass for you to shine! You are also welcome to stay late to help the crew drop the fire and watch as the locomotive is secured for the evening.
Over the last 8 years we have hosted approximately 120 Guest Engineers from all over the country and from overseas. We have all had a great time meeting and making new friends in the cabs of our steam engines. Won't you come and join us this year? Participation in this program makes a great gift and one we guarantee will make a lasting impression of the receiver!
In order to provide a high quality experience, each date is limited to no more than 4 Guest Engineers. Advance reservations are required and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the popularity of this program, it is highly recommended that you make your reservations as soon as possible. Payment can be made by check or credit card. Payment must be received in order to guarantee your reservation. A waiting list will be kept in case of cancellations. You must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid driver's license in order to participate.
