Students enrolled at accredited institutions may be able to earn course credit through the museum's internship program. Enrollment, credit and cost are determined by your school.
We will work with each prospective intern to design a program that is both fun and educational.
All internships consist of two parts. First, you will work with our Executive Director and Education Director, to identify a project for your internship. Typically, these projects involve the museum's collections, exhibits or educational programs.
Second, you will spend time as a museum volunteer in one or more "visitor-contact" positions. This may involve working with an engineer, conductor, or car host/docent on our two foot narrow gauge railroad train, sharing this historic equipment with visitors or serving as "station agent" in our railroad museum. All of these positions involve a lot of interaction with the museum's visitors, as well as learning about local and railroad history. No experience is necessary; all necessary training is provided.
If you think you might be interested in a museum internship, please explore this web site more fully to get additional information about the museum. Then contact the program coordinator, Brian Durham, Esq., (via e-mail or by calling the museum, 207-828-0814). He will set up an appointment to discuss project possibilities. There is no deadline – we can use interns year round.
