Help preserve the State of Maine’s Industrial History and unique railroad tradition!!! The Maine Narrow Gauge is hosting its spring volunteer track weekend, and we need workers!!! Our primary goal is to extend the runaround siding right by our museum, so that we may run the engine around the train at the end of each trip. This way, the locomotive will always be in the lead helping to improve safety.

All work is done by hand; just as it was done when the first 2-foot gauge tracks were laid in Maine in 1879!!! We’ll provide the materials, but we need the support and the manpower of volunteers from the Portland community and beyond!!! No special skills or experience required!!! All help would be greatly appreciated, even if you are not interested or unable to help with the more physically demanding work. There is plenty to do! Food and refreshments will be provided by the museum on both days. Please come join us for an unforgettable railroad experience! For your safety, work gloves, steel-toed boots, and long-sleeves are strongly encouraged. We will meet in front of the museum at 9 AM on both days. If you plan to attend, please contact Chris Small so we are sure to have enough food for everyone!
